Mobile mechanic · Etobicoke · Since 2009

We come to the truck, not the other way around.

Breakdown on the 401 at 4 a.m.? Trailer sitting loaded in a yard off Martin Grove with no air pressure? 409 Mobile Truck & Trailer Repair rolls a fully equipped service truck to your unit — in Etobicoke, across Toronto, and out along the 400-series corridors — and gets it moving again.

One number, answered by a mechanic — not a call centre. Mon–Sat, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

A shop that fits in a service body

409 started as a one-truck operation out of a yard on Martin Grove Road, fixing air brakes for a handful of owner-operators who couldn't afford to sit in a dealer queue for three days. Fifteen years later the fleet list has grown — dry vans, flatbeds, dump trailers, reefer units, box trucks, and the odd heavy pickup — but the working principle hasn't changed: diagnose it properly on site, fix what's actually broken, and tell the driver the truth about what it costs.

Our service truck carries an air system kit, brake chambers and slack adjusters, hydraulic hose and fittings, a full socket and impact set, a 3/4-inch drive torque wrench, a jump pack big enough for a C15, and a laptop with the diagnostic software for Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR and Volvo/Mack engines. That means most calls end with the unit rolling, not with a tow bill and a week in a bay.

We're not a dealership and we don't pretend to be. If a repair genuinely needs a lift, a machine shop, or a manufacturer-specific tool, we'll say so on the phone before we dispatch — and we'll tell you where to take it. What we won't do is charge you a service call to find out.

The index

What we fix, and where we do it

Tap any entry to open it. One at a time — the rest fold away.

01 Roadside breakdown & no-start Highway shoulder, yard, dock, or driveway

The call we get most. Truck cranks and won't fire, dies at idle, loses power under load, or won't build air. We start with the battery and charging system, then fuel delivery, then the fault codes — in that order, because it's the order that finds the cheap fix first.

  • Battery load test, boost, and alternator/starter diagnosis
  • Fuel filter and water separator change on the shoulder
  • Air system leaks, governor and dryer faults, no-build-air calls
  • Fault code read and interpretation for Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR, Volvo/Mack

If it's a shoulder call on a 400-series highway, tell us the direction of travel and the nearest exit or kilometre marker when you call. It saves ten minutes of guessing.

02 Air brakes & brake systems Chambers, slack adjusters, valves, lines

Brake work is where a mobile call pays for itself. A failed brake chamber or a slack adjuster that won't hold is an out-of-service defect — you're not moving until it's fixed, and a tow to a shop costs more than the repair.

  • Brake chamber replacement, front and rear, spring and service
  • Automatic slack adjuster replacement and stroke adjustment
  • Relay valve, quick-release valve and treadle valve service
  • Air line repair and replacement, nylon and copper
  • Air dryer cartridge and purge valve service
  • Full brake adjustment and leak-down check before you roll
03 Trailer repair Landing gear, lights, doors, structure

Trailers break in predictable ways and mostly at the worst time — a landing gear leg that won't crank when you're dropping a loaded van, a door that won't latch with a customer waiting, a wiring harness rubbed through by a mud flap.

  • Landing gear repair, leg replacement and crank handle rebuild
  • Trailer wiring, marker lights, ABS lamp faults and 7-way plug repair
  • Roll-up and swing door adjustment, rollers, tracks and latches
  • Mud flap, light box, and undercarriage bracket repair
  • Reefer unit no-start and belt service
04 Hydraulics Hose, fittings, cylinders, wet kits

Dump trailers, roll-offs, tilt decks, plows and wet kits. A blown hydraulic hose stops a job instantly, and it's usually a fifteen-minute fix if the right hose and fitting are on the truck. Ours are.

  • Hydraulic hose assembly on site, crimped to length
  • JIC, ORFS and pipe fitting replacement
  • Cylinder reseal and rod-end repair
  • PTO and pump diagnosis, reservoir and filter service
05 Preventive maintenance & inspections Done in your yard, on your schedule

We'd rather see your fleet on a schedule than on the shoulder. PM service comes to your yard — evenings and early mornings by arrangement, so the trucks aren't down during your delivery window.

  • Oil, filter and grease service, engine and chassis
  • Fuel/water separator and air dryer service
  • Coolant, belts, hoses and charge-air boot inspection
  • Brake adjustment and leak check
  • Lighting, tire pressure and tread depth walk-around
  • Written findings you can hand to a driver or an insurer

Fleet accounts get a standing schedule and one invoice a month. Ask when you call.

06 Electrical & diagnostics The faults that come back twice

Intermittent electrical faults are the ones that get misdiagnosed. We chase them with a meter and a wiring diagram rather than by swapping parts, and we'll show you what we found.

  • Charging and starting system diagnosis
  • Chassis and trailer harness fault tracing
  • Sensor and actuator faults, derate and check-engine codes
  • Aftertreatment and DPF-related fault interpretation
  • APU, inverter and accessory circuit repair
07 Tires & wheels Roadside change, torque, and inspection

We carry the tools for a proper roadside tire change — a 1-inch impact, torque multiplier and calibrated torque wrench — so the wheel goes back on to spec, not to "tight enough."

  • Roadside tire change, steer, drive and trailer positions
  • Wheel torque to manufacturer spec, re-torque documented
  • Valve stem, TPMS and leak repair
  • Wheel seal and bearing inspection

Where we'll meet you

We're based on Martin Grove Road, just north of the 401 in Etobicoke. That puts us inside a short run of most of the industrial west end — Rexdale, North York, Mississauga's east side, and the airport cargo area.

Beyond that, we run the corridors: 401, 400, 427, 409, 407 and the QEW. If you're broken down on one of those, call and tell us the direction and the nearest exit — we'll tell you honestly whether we can get to you or whether you need a tow.

What drivers say

Rated 5.0 from 7 reviews.

Blew a brake chamber on the 401 near Dixon at 5:30 in the morning. He was there in forty minutes and I was rolling before my delivery window closed.

Owner-operator, dry van

Landing gear seized on a loaded trailer in our yard. Fixed on site the same afternoon instead of sending it to a shop for a week.

Fleet manager, Rexdale

Chased an intermittent no-start on our box truck for two days. He found a rubbed harness behind the cab in an hour and showed me the spot.

Dispatcher, Malton

One number. One truck. Yours when it breaks.

Whether it's a no-start in a yard or a brake chamber on the shoulder, the fastest thing you can do is call. Tell us what the unit is, where it is, and what it's doing — we'll tell you straight whether we can fix it on site.
